This marlock tree is normally found in the southwest of Australia. It can grow to 10 metres with a dense crown which can get as wide as it is tall.
Platypus bark is smooth and brown in colour, sometimes having a copper tinge to it, often getting lighter in colour as the tree ages.
Flowers are a yellow/white colour and occur either at the end or start of the year.
An early settler of Western Australia, James Drummond, collected samples of this eucalyptus near King George’s Sound.
Due to this tree having a dense foliage, it does not allow other vegetation under it to grow well, but does make a nice windbreak.
It does like heavier soils and grows well in most situations.
