Sea Urchin Hakea (Hakea petiolaris)

Sea Urchin Hakea (Hakea petiolaris)

Native to the southwest of Western Australia, this Hakea grows more like a tall shrub than a tree.

With cream stem-like flowers on typically a red perianth, resembling a sea urchin, hence the common name. The leaves are a pale grey colour and can grow to 15cm long by 5 cm wide.

It is a fast growing tree that does get used as a hedge or screening plant.
